Being an undergraduate is that important to career?

Degree is considered as a qualification in a soceity. But do you think that we can measure the skills of a person with that degree? Can't be a skillful person without a degree???

There are successful people existing who don't have a degree to achieve their dreams. If you really think you don't need a degree for your carrier then don't invest your time on it. But unfortunately, the degree is the scale of measurement of our education status in our society. To get any job, degree is the basic quality. Degree may not important for your career. But it'll be a supplement for your knowledge.

Degree makes you graduate not intelligence, We can't judge a person intelligence with a degree, In fact I have seen so many intelligence people who didn't own a degree,
our society should stop scaling a person's intelligence with degree.
You're not going to master the rest of your life in one day. Don't stress. Master the day. Make this a daily reminder.

Well said. Specialy in our soceity, they just study for degree and first class. Not for knowledge or skill in the particular field ..

Couldn't agree more, Many people told me that they are studying a irrelevant course just to get a degree.

There are 2 sides to it.

    • Because that's what happens when undergraduates aim to earn a degree without spending an ounce of effort in it. Instead, they rely on copy and paste method and friendship to earn them a degree and it works most of the time. So they graduate with no actual knowledge of their degree.
    • because they haven't put much effort in updating themselves to the trend and just a degree and the 4 years old knowledge would not get a job. Learning would.

Exactly! A degree is a measure of your knowledge. But that doesn't mean it alone judges someone's brilliance. the point is a degree is the most tangible and reliable form of a measurement of knowledge.
If an undergrad is patient and determined enough to study for 4 years in a university environment, then he/she earns some kind of trust or respect from others. That is a reason why degree holders are respected. If we eliminate the concept of degree from our society, what kind of replacement do we have?Everyone keeps on complaining about the education system, examinations, and degrees! But what replacement or substitute do we propose? Nothing. If we complain about a problem, then we need to have a solution!

So we can come to the solution that the degree system doesn't produce skilled people.. Just self learning.. Isn't it??

There is solution.. We should apply and study something that interests us or we have to develop the interest in the field we have got selected to.. But what is happening in Sri Lanka is students apply for courses to just get any degree and then just follow the course to finish and get the degree.
