5 Steps of Design Thinking Process for Innovation.

When you heard about the word design thinking, what is that? is the question that will raise in your mind, right? Don't worry; Let me explain what design thinking is. Design thinking is the process to identify complex problems and finding solutions for them. Organizations use the design thinking method to gather insights and create a strategic plan to reach their unmet goals.

At present many businesses focus on design-driven, customer-centric, and user-experience-focused innovation. And design thinking is the fundamental and effective strategy progress to this organizational innovation.

Let's have a look at the five stages of design thinking process for Innovation.



1. Be Empathic about Problems.


Having an empathic understanding of the problem that you need to solve is the first step of the design thinking process. Through your observation and engagement with your target, you need to find out the areas that need more concern. You need to examine the physical atmosphere of your commercial to have an own understanding of the issues so that you can work on the accurate solution. Also, you need to understand your customers’ experiences to gather data about what your customers do, say, think, and feel about your products and services. This will help you to improve your business.

2. Define Core Problems.

In this defining step, you need to composed and put together the facts that you have found and collected during the empathize step. To define the core problems in this stage you will analyze the data and synthesize them in a human-centred manner. Actually, this is the phase where you begin to find out the opportunities for innovation.

3. Begin to Generate Ideas.

This is the third stage of the design thinking process; Based on your analysis and observations you may understand your customers’ needs and found several opportunities to solve the human-centred problems. With this firm background, you inaugurate to think out of the box to discover new way outs to resolve the problems that you have found. Here you start to view the complications in different ways and discover new ideation methods such as the worst possible idea, breakthrough, scamper and many others. In this stage without any rules, you need to give full freedom to yourself and your team to share ideas with one another, mix ideas and build on others' ideas as it's collaborative process all ideas are welcomed and encouraged.

4. Create Prototypes for Your Products.

After the complementation of the above three stages, now it's time to create a sample of an inexpensive, simple and scaled-down version of your business's product or service. You can share and test these prototypes with your team itself or with other departments or with the small group of people from outside. This stage is an experimental phase and it's the best way to find out the solution for each problem. According to the users' experiences, the solutions that are implemented in the prototypes will be accepted, improved or rejected. Based on the feedback on your prototypes you can get a better idea of your problems and find solutions.

5. Test Your Solutions.

This is the finishing step of design thinking. By using the best solution you identified in the prototypes phase you can test the complete product. In this final testing stage, you place your prototype in front of the actual customers and validate whether it attains yours and customers goals. The results generated in the testing phase can be helpful to you to identify problems, allow you to ask the right questions, more effective ideas can be created and the best solutions can be found.

Conclusion

Design thinking is an effective approach to problem-solving; it gives us a lot of opportunities to create breakthrough innovations and increases the probability of success. Our next generation will need to be more comfortable with complex problems and design thinking is the best way to teach them that. Thus, it's very important to include design thinking in schools so that children get familiar with this essential concept.
