Information Technology industry ( IT ) is one of the fastest growing Fields in Sri Lanka.Skilled professionals and rapidly developing infrastructure make Sri Lanka the rising ICT hub in Asia.Information Technology in Sri lanka refers to the business process outsourcing,Knowledge process outsourcing,software development,IT Services and IT education in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is ranked among the top 50 outsourcing destinations by AT Kearney (ranked at 11 in 2017) and Colombo is ranked among "Top 20 Emerging Cities" by Global Services Magazine.For the purpose of developing IT in sri lanka,Computer Society Of Sri lanka was started in 1976. Sri Lanka's IT industry has a short span of history starting around 2000.IT sector has been Identified as a priority sector for economic development in the country.

Sri Lanka has a proud heritage of free education from primary to tertiary levels and a youth literacy level of 98%,a feat any middle-income country can be proud of.The country today has a student population of 4 million students at 10,000 schools over 200,000 teachers within the country's education system and the Sri Lankan government has taken steps to integrate IT education to school education curriculum since the year 2006.The urban population of sri lanka records a computer literacy level of 39.2% while computer literacy in rural areas and estates are at a considerably lower 25.5% and 9% respectively.With the mission to drive IT literacy in srilanka Forward,4500 schools have been provided with IT infrastructure for student centered IT learning. Effective usage of IT emerging technologies and proper governance and regulatory frameworks are essential for the areas such as Increasing number of vehicles entering to the country,road traffic,expansions of expressways and railways.Public Transport environmental impacts and convenience have become more important in this context.We should use IT to make logistic services more efficient.



Sri Lanka's IT industry's goal is to achieve USD 5 billion in exports by 2022 while creating 200,000 jobs and uplifting 1,000 tech startups. IT sector grew by 120% over the past five years making it one of the highest growth areas in the economy and is the fifth largest export segment. Sri Lankan government aims to transform Sri Lanka towards a digitally inclusive country with a creative Knowledge based society.
