Why is listening important in communication?

People say good listening skills are extremely important in communication. But mostly we think that communication is all about talking,therefore we never focus on listening. Can you guys tell how does listening help us to establish good communication?

As for me, it is very important. As when the people do not listen to the others, the result of communication will be rather sad.

True, listening allows us to pay attention to the thoughts,feelings,emotions and behaviors of other person which help us to get better understanding about the person we're communicating with.
