Business Processes and Business Functions

Hi all,
Business process is a collection of activities that takes one or more kinds of inputs and creates an output that gives values to the customer.
Business functions are activities specific to a functional area of operation.
With these two definitions I think that these two are two different concepts. But I am in a difficulty of matching this difference to a real worl example. Can someone help me to clarify the difference of these two with an example.
