Death penalty, is that ethical or unethical?

Hi all,
The death penalty is something being legal in Sri Lanka is that ethical or unethical? Most of the time people consider the Death penalty as unethical? But giving the punishment for the wrongdoers is that unethical? But there is an issue whether the correct person is getting the punishment? If we think from that side it is really unethical. What is your idea on this?

As humans our society has a moral obligation to save another human being. So I would prefer lifetime imprisoment over death penalty as its sound more ethical.
