Why do we use sarcasm as a part of our speech?

Sarcasm is something that has almost become an essential part of our lives and there are even Facebook pages to celebrate it. it has almost got a cool attitude and whoever uses it is considered cool as well.

Why do we use it in the first place? When we were kids we never used it. But as we grew, it somehow came into use and sometimes it's considered impolite and rude when used at the wrong place at the wrong time.

If it's not widely accepted among elders as well. But still, we use it. Are we addicted to Sarcasm?
