Do You Guys Feel Like Language Is A barrier When Facing Interviews?

Guys!


Most of you guys might have gone through interviews and might have definitely experienced it. In Sri lanka the basic must languages are Sinhala, Tamil & English.
But when it comes for a job mainly if it's a government job the basic requirement in language is always Sinhala, English & Tamil.

In my own experience during my first interview I didn't know sinhala nor English, as I entered my boss's room I was totally scared even to ask '' Excuse me''
She talked to me in English and I just understood a little and couldn't continue further, then she spoke in sinhala which I didn't understand either I started crying and answered her with the very little English i knew.
In the end she advised me not to cry and fear since this was my first attempt. This was my first experience with an interview without knowing sinhala!


Do you guys really think that language is a barrier in Sri lanka when attending an interview? Since all the interviews are faced in English! Share us your opinion:)

I find language as a key to get through the interview.In Sri Lankan context we mostly speak Sinhala,Tamil as mother tongue and rarely English.
So,attending interviews in English will definitely prove the confidence level of interviewee.But at the beginning we may face bitter moments as you ,as time lapse it will be a lifetime experience.

It's depend on the interviewer.As he/she want to check your talent or langugage skills.If he prefer to check your language skill then language will be a obstacle in your interview

Depends on the job you are going to be doing. A story writer for a Tamil newspaper needs no English to prove him. But most jobs in the present day need English. More than language, confidence and attitude is important in my POV

yeah we faced most of the interview in English language but if your interviewer impress with your talent he will neglect your non fluent English.

It's all about attitude, even i don't know Sinhala or English well but I never show my self i don't know. Just in build the confidence. But it always better to learn other languages.
