The Wildlife Conservation Department has been retraced the Sri Lankan Black Panther that was believed to be extinct.

The Wildlife Conservation Department has installed several cameras in places where the Black Panthers are said to have been spotted and was able to catch the scenes of the animal on one of these cameras on 26th October 2019.

Four Sri Lankan Black Panthers have been captured on the camera, a female, male and two cubs

This investigation was led by Dr Malaka Abeywardene and Dr Manoj Akalanka of the Wildlife Conservation Department and the technical support for the research process was offered by the Tropical Eco-System Research Networks Organization.

Sri Lankan Black Panthers received their unique features due to a colour mutation and they make their habitat in cool and dark places.
